Marjorie Adams To Visit Doc’s Hometown

On Thursday, August 10th at 7:30 PM, in the Fire Station Meeting Room, the Mont Vernon Historical Society will present guest speaker, Marjorie Adams, who will give a PowerPoint presentation on her Great-Grandfather, Dr. Daniel Lucius “Doc” Adams. Doc Adams was born in Mont Vernon in 1814. He and his father practiced medicine in Mont Vernon before he moved to Boston. He is recognized as the author of “Laws of Base Ball”. Doc Adams Finally Appears On Hall of Fame Ballot But Falls 2 Votes Short

On December 7, 2015,  the Pre-integration Era Committee announced the results of the voting on the 10 candidates on the 2016 ballot at the MLB Winter Meetings. Candidates needed to receive 12 of 16 votes (75%) for election. The committee failed to elect any one of the 10 candidates. Doc Adams received the highest vote total,  just 2 shy of the required votes required for election. This was Doc’s first time appearing on a Hall of Fame ballot. Doc Adams Appears on Hall Of Fame Ballot For The 1st Time

On October 5, 2015, Daniel Lucius ‘Doc’ Adams appeared on the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time as the National Hall of Fame announced the 10 candidates on the 2016 Pre-integration Era ballot. Hall of Fame Announces Changes to Era Committees

The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced sweeping changes to the Era Committee system. It’s kind of a bad news, good news story. The bad news is two-fold. The first is that the Pre-integration Era Committee is effectively being replaced with the Early Baseball Committee (1871 – 1949) and the next election will not be held in 2018, but will be now occur in 2020. Second, the frequency of consideration is being stretched from 3 years to 10 years. Now for the good news. Hall of Fame Induction Day

It’s that special day of the year – Induction Day at the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Today, the 311th and 312th members of this exclusive group will be enshrined in the Hall. Congratulations to Mike Piazza and Ken Griffey, Jr. on their induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame! A well deserved honor for the’s two baseball greats! Hopefully, there will be a very special induction ceremony in 2019. Please enjoy the video below.

Today, the National Baseball Hall of Fame will announce the candidates that have been selected by the Pre-Integration Era Committee for enshrinement in the Hall. Doc Adams is one of 10 candidates appearing on the ballot. If named on 75% of the ballots cast, he will earn election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and will be inducted in Cooperstown on July 24, 2016, along with any electees who emerge from the 2016 Baseball Writers’ Association of America election. Pre-integration Era Committee Convened

The 16-member Pre-Integration Era Committee will be meeting to consider the 10 candidates on the Pre-integration Era Ballot, headlined by Doc Adams, starting today at the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings in Nashville, TN. Voting will be completed tomorrow. Any candidate to receive votes on 75 percent of the ballots cast will earn election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and will be inducted in Cooperstown on July 24, 2016, along with any electees who emerge from the 2016 Baseball Writers’ Association of America election.
