2020 Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Cancelled

Doc Adams Base Ball (Official) Posted on May 1, 2020 by Roger J. Ratzenberger, Jr.December 10, 2021

Jay Jaffee discusses the cancellation of the 2020 National Baseball Hall of Fame Induction in a FanGraphs article “The Hall of Fame’s Class of 2020 Will Have to Wait a Year .for Induction Weekend“. Jaffe alludes to the cancellation of the 2020 Induction possibly setting up a very interesting scenario next year in Cooperstown. Doc Adams should appear on the Early Baseball ballot this December and will hopefully be elected for induction as part of the class of 2021. If he is elected, the first shortstop and inventor of the position, would be a ‘classmate’ of the latest shortstop to … Continue reading →

Doc Adams Finally Appears On Hall of Fame Ballot But Falls 2 Votes Short

Doc Adams Base Ball (Official) Posted on December 7, 2019 by Roger J. Ratzenberger, Jr.July 14, 2022

On December 7, 2015,  the Pre-integration Era Committee announced the results of the voting on the 10 candidates on the 2016 ballot at the MLB Winter Meetings. Candidates needed to receive 12 of 16 votes (75%) for election. The committee failed to elect any one of the 10 candidates. Doc Adams received the highest vote total,  just 2 shy of the required votes required for election. This was Doc’s first time appearing on a Hall of Fame ballot. Although he was not elected THIS time, being the top vote getter, so close to election, was a major accomplishment. As recently as … Continue reading →

This marked a major milestone in the efforts to have Doc recognized with enshrinement. For a more detailed announcement read DOC ADAMS HELPED SHAPE BASEBALL’S EARLIEST DAYS. Upcoming Induction A Time to Reminisce and Look Ahead

Doc Adams Base Ball (Official) Posted on July 14, 2019 by Roger J. Ratzenberger, Jr.December 11, 2021

With the 2019 National Baseball Hall of Fame Induction upon us, it causes us to reminisce and to look ahead as well. It’s a good time to re-visit Bill Francis’ great article about Doc on the Hall of Fame’s website. The article was published the 1st time Doc appeared on the ballot for the class of 2016. Had the Hall not changed their committee rules, this could have been Doc’s year. As it is now, he will have to wait for the ballot for the class of 2021. Hopefully, the 2021 Induction will see Doc being acknowledged with enshrinement into … Continue reading →

Proposing a Pioneers Committee

Doc Adams Base Ball (Official) Posted on January 24, 2018 by Roger J. Ratzenberger, Jr.July 14, 2022

First of all congratulations to the Hall of Fame Class of 2018. On the day that the 2018 Hall of Class was filled out adding Chipper Jones, Jim Thome, Vlad Guerrero, and Trevor Hoffman to Jack Morris and Alan Trammell, a great article appeared n Yahoo Sports.  In Rob Neyer’s article, “Marvin Miller is the poster boy for a larger Baseball Hall of Fame dilemma“, he proposes that the Hall of Fame should create a Pioneers Committee to address the Hall’s “problem with people who made enormous, perhaps revolutionary contributions to baseball, but don’t quite fit into one of the … Continue reading →

Marjorie Adams Visits Mont Vernon

Doc Adams Base Ball (Official) Posted on August 26, 2017 by Roger J. Ratzenberger, Jr.October 10, 2023

Recently Marjorie Adams visited the hometown of her great-grandfather, Daniel Lucius ‘Doc’ Adams. Doc Adams was born in Mont Vernon, New Hampshire on November 1, 1814 to Daniel Adams, MD and Nancy Mulliken Adams. He and his family lived there until 1846 when they moved to Keene, New Hampshire. While in Mont Vernon, Marjorie delivered a Doc Adams presentation to the Milford Rotary and Mont Vernon Historical Society. The presentation detailed Doc’s life and contributions to the birth of our National Pastime. Here are a few articles from that recent visit: “Celebrating Doc Adams: ‘A father of base ball’?”, in … Continue reading →
