Annual Old Time Base Ball Festival Renamed in Honor of Doc Adams

The Old Time Base Ball Festival held at Old Bethpage Village Restoration is the longest running Vintage Base Ball Festival of its kind having its inaugural event in 1997. Teams from across the country come to play various different versions of old-time base ball from the 1850s to 1890s. Starting in 1979 as a Civil War reenactment, it evolved into a recreation of the 1864 base ball league made up of teams that existed on the island back in that time period. Why Is The Foul Pole Fair?

Autho Vince Staten references Doc Adams in his book, “Why Is The Foul Pole Fair?” In addition to the quoted below, he also highlights excerpts from the seminal 1896 Sporting News interview. So, they made it official, this gentlemen’s club, composed of seventeen merchants, twelve clerks, five brokers, four professional men, a bank teller, a “Segar Dealer”, a hatter, a cooperage owner, and several “gentlemen”. they elected Daniel L. “Doc” Adams, a physician, their president. This book is filled with exciting and amazing experiments, an illuminating guide reveals how sports can be scientific by examining baseballs, golf balls, footballs, ping-pong balls, and more. Reminiscing About The Hall Of Fame Class of 2022

July 25, 2022, the Class of 2022 was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. The inductees were: Bud Fowler, Gil Hodges, Jim Kaat, Minnie Miñoso, and Buck O’Neil, Tony Oliva, and David Ortiz, as well as Tim Kurkjian (BBWAA’s Career Excellence Award} and Jack Graney (Ford C. Frick Award). For many, it was a long wait; for some, a very long wait. The Knickerbocker Base Ball Club has been recreated with the advent of The Knickerbocker Experience. They debuted at the Gettysburg National 19th Century Base Ball Festival in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in 2022. With the club’s special attention to historical accuracy, the debut was both fun and meaningful for ballists and cranks alike. A total of 32 clubs battled in a single elimination tournament. Once a team was eliminated from the tournament, they continued to face other clubs in festival play. The Flat Rock Bear Clan BBC of Michigan emerged victorious, defeating the Rising Sun BBC of Maryland 23-11 for the championship. … Continue reading →
