Teams around the country sponsored “A Pitch For Doc Adams” events to honor Adams and raise awareness of his role as a baseball pioneer among ballists and cranks alike. In 2015, this longest running annual vintage base ball festival of its kind was renamed in honor of Daniel Lucius ‘Doc’ Adams. The 28th installment of the Annual Doc Adams Old Time Base Ball Festival will take place tomorrow and Sunday, August 2-3, at Old Bethpage Village Restoration. In 2015, this longest running annual vintage base ball festival of its kind was renamed in honor of Daniel Lucius ‘Doc’ Adams. Well, we had hoped that Doc Adams would be on a Hall of Fame ballot for the 2nd time. The first time, in 2015 (on the 2016 Pre-integration Era ballot), Adams missed election by just 2 votes! The Classic Baseball Era Committee has a short time to get to know the 8 candidates. They have a brief time to discuss them as a group and are heavily dependent on the historian(s) on the committee. The weather was spectacular for the capstone of the “A Pitch For Doc Adams” series held at the historic M.A.C. Grounds at Fleischmanns Park in Fleischmanns, NY.
