Fleischmanns Mountain Athletic Club & Mudville Base Ball Club Raise Awareness

The Fleischmanns Mountain Athletic Club (M.A.C.) and the Mudville Base Ball Club, from the Boston area, played a lively and entertaining doubleheader of 1860’s style baseball. The recent heat wave broke just in time and made the day even more enjoyable for ballists and cranks alike. Collin Miller raised awareness of the contributions of Daniel Lucius “Doc” Adams, MD to our National Pastime and why he should be in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Three years ago, The Library of Congress hosted the Baseball Americana exhibition.  The ‘Laws of  Base Ball” authored by Doc Adams was the centerpiece of this major, year-long exhibition. The exhibition explored baseball’s past and present and how the game forged a sense of community for players and fans across the country. “The founding documents of baseball that would shape the modern game as our national pastime were ironed out in January and February 1857 at a convention called by the Knickerbockers Base Ball Club in New York City. New Signs Honoring Doc Adams Dedicated

This past weekend, Mont Vernon added Vintage Base Ball to their annual Lamson Farm Day which is a day of festivity at the Lamson Farm with displays by various groups in town. Last year, these Vintage Base Ball games were played as the Inaugural Doc Adams Invitational. Click here for more photos from this year’s event. It was a great event on a beautiful early fall day. Mark September 29 on your calendar… In 2017, the Inaugural Doc Adams Invitational was held in Doc’s hometown of Mont Vernon, New Hampshire. This year, Mont Vernon is pleased to add Vintage Base Ball to their annual Lamson Farm Day. Baseball Americana on All-star Weekend

The events of All-star Weekend associated with the Library of Congress’  Baseball Americana exhibition did not disappoint. The centerpiece of the exhibition is Baseball’s Magna Carta in its 1st major exhibition since being rediscovered and sold at auction for $3.26M. Events included a Vintage Base Ball demonstration, a bat-making demonstration, and an a Capella performance of vintage base ball songs by The Capital Hearings. The highlight of the day was John Thorn’s presentation, “The Origins of the Modern Game: The Laws of Base Ball”.
