Efforts Ramp Up To Get CT Baseball Legend Into Hall Of Fame

In his March 6, 2015 Connecticut Magazine article, “Efforts Ramp Up to Get CT Baseball Legend Into Hall of Fame”, Eric Olgang detailed the beginning of Marjorie Adams’ quest. The 1858 New York Knickerbockers and Brooklyn Excelsiors It wasn’t the pitch she was expecting. A few years ago, Marjorie Adams of Mystic attended a lecture in Simsbury on the pre-Civil War history of baseball when the speaker, Gary Goldberg-O’Maxfield threw the baseball history equivalent of a curveball—he discussed Doc Adams, and hailed him as a forgotten founding father of America’s pastime. Marjorie Adams – The Ridgefield Historical Society

Marjorie Adams recently talked with the Ridgefield Historical Society about her great-grandfather, Daniel Lucius ‘Doc’ Adams, M.D. To steal a line from SABR, Marjorie draws on her family archives and ephemera in addition to more traditional sources to provide an in-depth look into the man John Thorn called “the true father of baseball – and you’ve never even heard of him!” The video presentation was posted to the Ridgefield Historical Society yesterday, August 19, 2020 and can be viewed below.

Heading To The Baseball Hall Of Fame: Profile Of Doc Adams

In their recent edition of “Scott House Journal” the Ridgefield Historical Society mentions Doc Adams and the hope that he will be elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Early Baseball Era Committee this December. The article also publicizes the video presentation by Marjorie Adams, one of Doc’s great-granddaughters, that will be posted on the Ridgefield Historical Society website on August 20.

New Signs Honoring Doc Adams Dedicated

This past weekend, Mont Vernon added Vintage Base Ball to their annual Lamson Farm Day which is a day of festivity at the Lamson Farm with displays by various groups in town. Last year, these Vintage Base Ball games were played as the Inaugural Doc Adams Invitational. Click here for more photos from this year’s event. It was a great event on a beautiful early fall day. Marjorie Adams Visits Mont Vernon

Recently Marjorie Adams visited the hometown of her great-grandfather, Daniel Lucius ‘Doc’ Adams. Doc Adams was born in Mont Vernon, New Hampshire on November 1, 1814 to Daniel Adams, MD and Nancy Mulliken Adams. He and his family lived there until 1846 when they moved to Keene, New Hampshire. While in Mont Vernon, Marjorie delivered a Doc Adams presentation to the Milford Rotary and Mont Vernon Historical Society. The presentation detailed Doc’s life and contributions to the birth of our National Pastime. Marjorie Adams To Visit Doc’s Hometown

On Thursday, August 10th at 7:30 PM, in the Fire Station Meeting Room, the Mont Vernon Historical Society will present guest speaker, Marjorie Adams, who will give a PowerPoint presentation on her Great-Grandfather, Dr. Daniel Lucius “Doc” Adams. Doc Adams was born in Mont Vernon in 1814. He and his father practiced medicine in Mont Vernon before he moved to Boston. He is recognized as the author of “Laws of Base Ball”.
