On October 9, 2021, the general meeting of SABR’s Smoky Joe Wood Chapter had a 19th Century Base Ball theme. Presentations on the 1884 season by Bill Ryczek, the popular game of Wicket in CT by Joanne Hulbert, Sunday Base Ball by Alan Cohen, and annual Retro All Star selections for 1876 to 1899 by Michael Murphy were enjoyed by attendees. The capstone of the meeting was Chapter President Steve Krevisky announcing Marjorie Adams as the recipient of the Inaugural Doc Adams Award. Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the 2020 National Baseball Hall of Fame induction was postponed. Therefore, the Class of 2020 had to wait until today to be formally inducted. That created the possibility for an interesting footnote for the Class of 2020/2021. A member of the Class of 2020 is the latest and one of the highest profile shortstops (at least in recent memory) to join this elite club. Of course, that is former New York Yankee shortstop and current part owner of the Miami Marlins, Derek Jeter. In Remembrance Of Marjorie Adams And Doc

The Wethersfield Red Onion played the Woodstock Hilltoppers at Cove Park in Wethersfield CT in remembrance of their dear friend, Marjorie Adams, and Doc Adams.The spirited game was played by 1864 Base Ball rules. It was a beautiful day and a great time was had by all. The Hilltoppers outlasted the Red Onion, 10-9.

On March 8, 2021, Marjorie Adams appeared on Baseball and BBQ Podcast Episode #87 (Marjorie Adams-Baseball Royalty) with Len Aberman and Jeff Cohen, and Jeff “Pinetar” Kornhaas. It was a very interesting discussion about her great-grandfather, Doc Adams, and Marjorie’s efforts to spread the word of his role in the development and growth of our National Pastime. It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Marjorie Adams, great-granddaughter of Dr. Daniel Lucius ‘Doc’ Adams passed away on July 7, 2021. Marjorie’s tireless efforts to spread the story of her great-grandfather, Doc Adams, enlightened and inspired many baseball fans. Marjorie conducted a campaign to educate people on Doc’s role as a pioneer of our National Pastime and his importance to baseball’s survival and growth during its nascent period.
