The Vintage Base Ball Association is a strong advocate for getting Daniel Lucius “Doc” Adams’s into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Daniel Lucius “Doc” Adams contributions to the game have been documented in the “Laws of Base Ball” first presented to the New York area ball clubs on January 22, 1857. Doc Adams played the game, created base balls and bats, was the President of the Knickerbockers, and was elected as the presiding officer of the first conventions and Rules Committees to standardize the rules of the game. On October 5, 2015, Daniel Lucius ‘Doc’ Adams appeared on a Hall of Fame ballot for the first time, 153 years after he retired from the Knickerbockers. The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced Doc Adams as one of the 10 candidates on the 2016 Pre-integration Era ballot. For many years, Doc Adams contribution to baseball was overlooked. That’s a shame, because without him, baseball would have been a vastly different game. There would be no shortstop because shortstop was Doc’s invention, redefining the geography of the game. In 2018, the highlight of Mont Vernon, NH’s annual Lamson Farm Day was the unveiling  signs recognizing Mont Vernon as Doc Adams’ birthplace and his role as a Founding Father of Base Ball. It was even more special with Doc’s great-granddaughters, Marjorie Adams and Nancy Downey, in attendance. The signs were attached to the Welcome to Mont Vernon signs on Route 13, becoming the 1st permanent tributes to Doc Adams and his role as a contributions to baseball. The Doc Adams Birthplace Classic was planned to be held today in Doc’s hometown as part of Lamson Farm Day. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances led to the cancellation of this year’s event. After much discussion and consideration, it is with regret that we inform the followers of this page and the good folks of Mont Vernon, NH, that the Knickerbocker Experience will not be holding a game on Lamson Farm Day on September 28th.
