The latest installment of the Doc Adams Birthplace Classic took place Saturday, September 25 in Mont Vernon, New Hampshire. Due to recent wet weather, the games were moved from Lamson Farm to nearby McCollom Field. However, Saturday was a top 10 weather day and even with the change in venue, it was another outstanding event! The Dirigo Base Ball Club of Maine and a picked nine from several northeast vintage clubs entertained the cranks in attendance with their skills and love of the game. One of those cranks was Nancy Adams Downey, great-granddaughter of Doc Adams. The Doc Adams Birthplace … Continue reading →

On September 27, 1875, the Knickerbocker Base Ball Club held a reunion base ball game between the 1855 and 1865 teams.  At the invitation of his former Knickerbocker teammate, James Whyte Davis, Doc Adams returned to Hoboken for the game to celebrate Davis’ twenty-fifth year with the club. The Youngsters of 1865 whitewashed the veterans by a score of 21-0. Doc was the catcher for the Veterans of 1857. They managed five innings of play before ‘retiring’ to Duke’s Hotel for a meal and no doubt toasts and the sharing of stories of the old days! It was Doc’s last … Continue reading →

Knickerbocker Base Ball Club Founded

Doc Adams Base Ball (Official) Posted on September 23, 2021 by Roger J. Ratzenberger, Jr.December 10, 2021

There was a time that a member of the Pre-integration Era Committee touted Wikipedia as a research source he used.. In response to that, the entries related to Doc Adams and the New York Knickerbockers have been greatly enhanced. Hopefully, Wikipedia will not again be a main source for research – how about DocAdamsBaseBall.org?. However, if it is, here is how the founding of the Knickerbocker Base Ball Club and Doc’s engagement currently read. While a member of Knickerbocker Engine Company No. 12 of the New York City Fire Department, Alexander Joy Cartwright became involved in playing town ball (a similar game to baseball, and … Continue reading →

It contains tough to find information regarding rosters and game scores during the 1850’s-60’s.
