This year, the Doc Adams Birthplace Classic will be taking a bit of a hiatus. Actually, it will be just taking a road trip south to Connecticut to be celebrated as the Doc Adams Memorial Classic, The Knickerbocker Experience will stage a match of 1858 rules base ball and an 1865 “fly game” on Saturday, September 16, to honor baseball pioneer Daniel Lucius “Doc” Adams, M.D., a founding father of base ball and author of 1857 The Laws of Base Ball. The Knickerbocker Base Ball Club has been recreated with the debut of The Knickerbocker Experience at the Gettysburg National 19th Century Base Ball Festival in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in 2022. With the club’s special attention to historical accuracy, the debut was both fun and meaningful for ballists and cranks alike. A total of 32 clubs battled in a single elimination tournament. Once a team was eliminated from the tournament, they continued to face other clubs in festival play. The Flat Rock Bear Clan BBC of Michigan emerged victorious, defeating the Rising Sun BBC of Maryland 23-11 for the championship. In a … Continue reading →

”The Knickerbocker Experience”, offers an opportunity to “experience” the game as it was originally played.  “Rules aren’t bent” or “exceptions made” to make it work.  The intent is to provide a historically accurate game of base ball by playing the game as it was played in 1858, 1864 or 1865.  The goal is to provide people with a chance to try playing it or watching it, unrestricted by “variations or customs” – just pure base ball.as it was meant to be. As we know, the “Special” Early Baseball Overview Committee inexplicably left Daniel Lucius “Doc” Adams, M.D. off the 2022 Early Baseball Era Ballot. At the time, we indicated that this would not deter us from continuing our education campaign and its goal of seeing Doc Adams rightfully enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
