Doc Marries Cornelia

Daniel Lucius Adams and Cornelia Cook married on May 7, 1861, and remained together until Adams’ death. The couple had five children; the first, a son named Charles, died less than a month after his birth in 1864. The others, two sons (Frank and Roger) and two daughters (Catharine and Mary), were born between 1866 and 1874.   “My marriage was the crowning achievement of my life.” – Daniel Lucius Adams, MD Biographical & Historical Record of the Class of 1835 in Yale College (1881)

Doc Resigns From The Knickerbockers

On March 26, 1862, Doc tendered his resignation from the Knickerbocker Base Ball Club, “… although absent in body, I shall be present in spirit. My interest in the Club will never cease, nor can I forget the many happy hours spent in communion with its members.” James Whyte Davis, the KBBC secretary, accepted his resignation, “I indulge the hope that the ‘spirit’ you express of being with us as always, may be accompanied by the body on the old Play Grounds. Doc is Bank’s 1st President

In 1871, Doc Adams became the first President of the Ridgefield Savings Bank (now the Fairfield County Bank, a position he would hold in two separate terms for ten of the next fifteen years. In fact, his photo still hangs in the lobby of the main office/ Fairfield County Bank is proud with their affiliation with a Founding Father of our National Pastime and they continue to support our cause as evidenced in their recent Facebook post. Fairfield County Bank Introduces Doc Adams Days

“Fairfield County Bank hosted their first ‘Doc Adams Days’ with the Bridgeport Bluefish at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Doc Adams Days celebrate the bank’s first President. On Tuesday, July 18th, the inaugural event hosted over 30 eight to nine year old girls and boys from Bridgeport’s Cardinal Shehan Center.
