A couple of weeks ago, we shared some information on Dr. Daniel Lucius Adams (Doc Adams) contributions during the New York Cholera epidemic of 1854. In his Our Game Blog, John Thorn (the official historian for MLB) provided context of the mid-1800s, New York epidemics on March 22 in “Baseball in the Time of Cholera“.

“The Laws of Baseball … and the Unchanging Game” by John Thorn

John Thorn’s speech was one of the highlights of this past weekend’s events at the Library of Congress’ Baseball Americana exhibition. John is the Official Historian for Major League Baseball and his blog, ‘Our Game’, is a must read for baseball fans. Baseball in the Garden of Eden Lecture at Oregon Historical Society

John Thorn recently gave a lecture in the Oregon Historical Society’s summer series, entitled, “Baseball in the Garden of Eden (can be heard in its entirety here)“. It was on the occasion of the ‘Laws of Base Ball’ making its public debut at the Oregon Historical Society.  The lecture was enlightening and entertaining (would have loved to have been there) and definitely worth a listen.
