Vintage Base Ball Clubs To Boost Doc Adams Awareness
On Saturday, August 28th at noon, the Fleischmanns Mountain Athletic Club (M.A.C.) return home to host the Mudville Base Ball Club from the Boston area for a doubleheader of 1860’s style baseball.
The event will highlight the contributions of Daniel Lucius “Doc” Adams, MD to the National Pastime and raise awareness for his inclusion on the Early Baseball Era Committee ballot for the Baseball Hall of Fame elections taking place in December.
“John Thorn, the Official Historian of Major League Baseball and extensive researcher of the formative years of baseball in America has stated that ‘he’s the true father of baseball, and you’ve never heard of him,’ said Collin Miller. Miller is the President and Captain of the M.A.C. – a vintage baseball team nestled in the Village of Fleischmanns in the Catskill Mountains of New York.
Miller plans to have some Doc related ephemera at this event and will be sporting a custom-tailored replica uniform reminiscent of what Doc wore for the K.B.B.C. in the 1840s and 50s.
“Whether you can make it to our match or not,” states Miller, “we are encouraging baseball and history fans alike to support the cause for Doc’s rightful place in the Baseball Hall of Fame by signing a petition at docadamsbaseball.org.”
Admission to the games is free and donations are always accepted. Spectators are encouraged to bring a blanket for a picnic on the historic M.A.C. Grounds. For more information visit macvintagebaseball.org.
