Happy New Year From DocAdamsBaseBall.org
Overall, 2015 was a very exciting year:
- The Annual Old Base Ball Festival at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, was renamed in Doc Adams’ honor.
- Doc Adams was named to the 2016 Pre-Integration Era Ballot and for the FIRST time was considered for enshrinement in the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
- Although he was not elected, he was the top vote-getter receiving 10 of the required 12 votes, missing by just 2 votes. This was disappointing, however, it must be looked at in the proper context. Going into 2015, not many people other than those who study the history of the game had even heard of Doc Adams. On the evening of December 7, Doc was mentioned on every sportscast, newspaper, and blog. The primary objective to educate people about the contributions and accomplishments of Doc Adams had begun.
It is 3 years until Doc will be eligible for the Pre-Integration Era ballot once again. The next 3 years will provide the opportunity to further bring attention to Doc Adams and his accomplishments with the ultimate goal to gain well-deserved recognition for him with a plaque in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. We will be re-doubling our efforts to educate baseball fans about Daniel Lucius ‘Doc’ Adams.
